Lotton Glass Calendar Of Events

The Early Auction Company is holding their next Auction in 2008.

The Lotton Glass Club will be there for all the fun and excitement!
As we rapidly approach the date of our 3rd annual club meeting, we wanted to send out a reminder to club members along with some updated information:

First and foremost: If you have not yet made your room reservations, please remember to mention the "Early Auction room rate" when you call the Sheraton for a room. The room rate should be $99 a night, which is a significant savings from the normal room rate. If you have not yet replied regarding your attendance this year, please do so when you have a free moment as it will help us to better plan for the event. This is a unique opportunity for all of us - we are fortunate to be collectors of the finest glass made and ALSO have access to the living artist who makes these fine works. I can assure you that this is indeed a rare occurrence.

Those who attended the event last year know what an educational and exciting event this is for Lotton collectors. The amount of information that Charles shared with the group last year was overwhelming! I still refer back to the video clips on the club website and learn from them each time. To watch the videos, click here and scroll down to the bottom of the page to click on the video links.

Some of you have been Early customers long before you were Lotton collectors, so you are well aware of what a fantastic catalog they create. The Early's catalogs and price lists are quickly becoming very important reference works. What's exciting for Lotton collectors is that for the very first time, a piece of Lotton glass is on the cover of the catalog! This may not seem exceptional to the newer auction attendees, but it is a complete break from history and tradition; shocking, even! Early's is the best known Victorian art glass house in the world, and he is showing a CONTEMPORARY item. The plated amberina lamp on the preliminary postcard is one of the rarest and most valuable Victorian items in the world, yet that is not featured on the catalog front cover, as most would expect. For Lotton collectors this is a landmark event! The trickle-down result from the catalog cover will eventually give much credibility (and incidentally, increased value) to Lotton collections. The cover of the Early's catalog has historically been a place where only the finest Victorian Items, and occasionally a place where unique Tiffany and Woodall items were "sometimes" permitted. I can think of few better ways of finally recognizing and validating the unique contributions, imagination and skills that Charles has brought to the history and world of art glass. I believe that this takes Lotton from the category of just a contemporary glass artist and lets him walk with the greatest glass artists/scientists of all time - the likes of Tiffany, Locke, and Woodall.

In addition to the beautiful new glass that the Lotton studio will have on display and for sale, and the great selection of Lotton items in the auction the following day (Friday), members of the Lotton Club will be bringing various items from their personal collections to show. We will have examples on display from the entire career of Charles Lotton. In addition, we will also have a separate display of rare or unusual pieces. If you have a piece of glass that you'd like to share with meeting attendees, please feel free to bring it along with you. Likewise, if you have a photo album of your collection, please bring that with you to share with the group.

If you are unable to attend the event but wish to bid on Lotton (or other) pieces in the sale, you are in luck! Early's is equipped to take your bids over the telephone, but you must pre-register for this by calling Early's at (513) 831-4833. You can view their entire catalog on-line at http://www.earlyauctionco.com/2008-spring-catalog/ . If you are interested in getting a hard copy of the catalog, let me know as I may be able to obtain a few from Steve Early. The first Lotton piece is lot number 173. Photos of the Lotton pieces in the sale will also be posted on the club website soon. There will be a large variety of Lotton in the sale!

We hope that everyone has an opportunity to meet with us this year. This is really a fun and informative event! If you have any questions or need additional information, please don't hesitate to contact me at (847) 630-0338 or via e-mail me here.

Make sure that you make note of all of these upcoming events. If you have an event in your area and would like it on the calendar, please e-mail us with all the important information.
