Our Second Annual Meeting on April 13, 2007 Was A Huge Success!

And Charles Lotton Made It Truly Special!

Hello again from the Lotton Glass Collectors Club! We want to thank all of the members who came out for our second annual club meeting. It was a fantastic event and one that I will remember forever!

Charles Lotton and Jacqueline Renier were our very special guests and both of them spoke at the event. I want to thank Charles and Jacque for joining us and turning our event into something very special for all who attended. I also want to thank club members John Pacini and Deb and Bill Fitzsimmons for bringing a small portion of their wonderful collections out for others to see. Deb also did a wonderful job speaking to the group as she displayed a powerpoint presentation describing one of her visits to the studio. John was also instrumental in helping me by offering to videotape the presentation – thanks again John!

Upon arrival to the Sheraton Hotel, my good friend and club member Daryle Lambert really took charge of the room setup, which needed LOTS of help to make it suitable for a speaking event. When we arrived it looked like it was set up for the last supper, with a huge table directly in the center of the room. We wouldn’t have had such a nicely setup room without Daryle’s help. Finally, the club owes a big “Thank You” to the Steve Early family as well, who was exceptional in their treatment of the club and me personally. The hotel accommodations exceeded all of our expectations and both the hotel and auction staff was helpful and courteous.

Although I’ve been to the studio several times and have seen Charles work his magic in front of the furnace, this was the very first time I’ve heard Charles speak publicly to a group and all I can say is that he is simply wonderful. Charles spoke openly and was very candid in all of his responses to the varied questions that came from the group. There were club members that attended obviously, but there were several people at the meeting who were neither club members nor Lotton collectors who just came to see all of the beautiful glass and hear what Charles had to say. I know that one of these gentlemen left the event as a new Lotton collector. Rather than try to tell members who couldn’t attend how great this event was, we will be posting video clips from the event on the club website shortly. This is not a small task, so please be patient – I promise it’ll be worth the wait! We very much look forward to working with both the Lotton and Early families in the future!

May 18th and 19th are the dates for the spring open house at the Lotton Studio in Crete, IL. I encourage all club members to attend this event. If you have not seen Charles and the other artists create one of their masterpieces, you should make a concentrated effort to attend the open house. This is an eye-opening experience for those who have not seen it before, and if you have children it’s also a great learning experience for them. If anyone has any questions about the Lotton open house, I would encourage you to contact Jacquline Renier at the Lotton studio for more information about it. Jacque can be reached toll free at (800) 661-0950.

Thanks again for being a member of the Lotton Glass Collectors Club!
